The Shanghai Contrast

My 4 day Shanghai visit gave me a 2-faced memory of the city.

We started the day by walking through the promenade along the Huangpu river. This gives you the best vantage point to 2 majestic sites of Shanghai.

On one side is edifice after edifice of Neo Classic European architectures more famously known as The Bund. This gives one a hint of Shanghai’s past as a center of foreign trade given that it is strategically located at the mouth of the Yangtze river

And on the other side of the Hungpu River is the Pudong skyline which gives one a glimpse of China’s future with Shanghai as its driving force.

And so again, depending on which part of the promenade you are standing… it’s classic architecture reminiscent of China’s past on the right….

The skyscrapers and futuristic looking buildings on the left…

That’s the Shanghai variation
